Seven new DCC rental houses have been built in South Dunedin.
Bringing the portfolio of affordable accommodation the DCC has available for the elderly and those on low incomes to almost 1,000. The houses, which have been designed with sustainability and economy in mind, have double glazing, insulation and solar water heating. We made this re-usable site sign with budget in mind.

We designed their new brand, made and installed their signs. This sign is 15 metres long. We even designed the colour scheme for their building.

Just in time for Xmas (only 78 sleeps until Christmas).
I've finally found some time to put the pics up of the new Dunedin Toyworld store. We did Large laminated digital prints on windows and all external sign panels.
Inside, we had fun creating the LegoZone and all the other Toyzones that makes Toyworld New Zealand's No.1 Toy Experts! Also to add to the overall mood, we made really large canvas wraps with digital images.

Thanks to the Dunedin Toyworld team, for all their hard work getting their new store up and running in such a short time! So, Big-up's to them!

Cutlers Rentals/Property Management in Great King Street, Had just moved into their new building and needed some privacy screening. They wanted something that said "Dunedin" and would give their front office the privacy that it needed without blocking it off completely. Frosted film was printed with our Mimaki printer and then applied to the windows. Instant Environmental Graphics!

Traditional Signwriting was an option here, yes we can still do it! That is paint on a wall, all done by hand.
I have spent most of my adult life re-training in other fields! (Graphic Design & Photography). Learning everything I can to make myself better at what I do. Brushwork is a dying art form. I'm glad I can still do it, I was trained by some really clever guys. Thanks for passing your knowledge on to me.

Because design is a process, Computer mock-ups are done before any work starts. These concept drawings can be improved & tweaked... before we go into production.
We take everything into consideration, even the neighbouring stores. National Bank on one side and a lotto shop on the other. So Lotto Blue and Natbank green were out, as colour options.

Black Books Finished

We have finished!!! Nothing will get in our way, even drain pipes.
It's difficult being noticed in a market where normal/average signage is everywhere.

"Big" digital prints do get seen and talked about around the town. This type of advertising works 24/7 and will last for a number of years, it's a great one off investment.

How Big?

When we print at large sizes we need 'BIG' files. Sometimes the only record that is available is a snapshot taken on an old digital camera.
Just ask us, we may be able to help. This original file from the Otago Museum was small and pixelated, but we managed to convert it to print at 2400mm x 1300mm!

Illuminating Archaeology.

This display illustrates Archaeological methods, it shows what they found at Watom Island.
It was printed on Translucent media and "Double Ink" was used to give the colours more oomph! when it is illuminated from behind.

Finally we have some graphics on our new Ford Mondeo Wagon.
3M controltac was used to conform around all the body panels. It is heated with a heat gun and conforms to the body shape. Look out for it on the street!

All graphics were manufactured by a company in Auckland & sent to us here in Dunedin. We simply arrange a time to come and install. Lets hope they keep them as clean as they are now!

X-Ray Problems?

Discovery World at the Otago Museum had a problem.
Their x-rays where getting damaged, finger marks and lables that were coming off.
X-rays can be fragile when handled by many hands.

Solution: We cold laminated the emulsion side of the x-rays to protect them. Hot lamination was not an option for x-Rays as the heat would damage them.

Now many children (and big children) can see whats in inside their bodies for years to come!

3M Controltac was used for all Digital Printing. All Graphics were printed on the Mimaki JV33, large format Digital printer then laminated with 3M cast Matt laminate.

This Digital print was applied to 3mm Lexan.

All packed and ready for the short journey to the Otago Museum. It is important that all graphic panels reach our clients in perfect condition.

Outdoor graphic, Gloss laminated & applied to ACM. Finished size was 1220mm x 2440mm.
This was a medium term graphic. So it was printed on 3 year outdoor vinyl. Design / printing / installation was all done in-house.

Starting with the design (computer file). We can then create graphics to any size. This job is all Vector artwork (line drawing). So it was easy to produce on the Mimaki CG160 Plotter/Cutter.
3M 7 year vinyl film was used. Cut, weeded ready to be applied to 10mm White PVC boards. The Finished signs had the corner cut to mirror the logo shape, Just a little touch that made the sign unique.

The promotion of our studio was important, so we came up with the idea that would show how you could have fun with large format digital printing.
This is a digital print of an ATM. That we printed on the Mimaki. Reactions to this have been amusing. It tricks a lot of people on a daily basis.

Looking for a Building...

We needed a building that was suitable for our Large Format printer. It would have to be Dust free and somewhere that we could control Temperature and Humidity.
This Building had an enclosed area that was perfect for our printer. Thanks to Cutlers Real Estate, we found an ideal building.
